Former Tasmanian Government Minister and Braddon MP Roger Groom has passed away, aged 87.
Sadly, it comes just a week after the death of his wife Gay.
Mr Groom was elected to the seat of Braddon in 1976 as a Liberal in the opposition, led by Angus Bethune, holding the seat for 21 years, before retiring in 1997.
During his time in State Parliament, Mr Groom served as a Government Minister from 1982 to 1989 under premier Robin Gray, holding a number of portfolios, including health, transport, police and emergency services, and mines.
Mr Groom was instrumental in establishing the TT-Line using the predecessor to the original Spirit of Tasmania, the Abel Tasman, on the Bass Strait run.
