Daring Cape Hauy Rescue

Two climbers had to be rescued on the Tasman Peninsula because they had got stuck on the Totem Pole at Cape Huay.

The climbers got stuck after their ropes became tangled in high winds at around 6pm last night (Wednesday) and they were unable to reach a safe place.

Initial attempts to rescue the climbers by helicopter were unsuccessful due to the weather, the use of a police vessel also unsuccessful due to a dangerous swell.

Members of the Climbing Club of Tasmania Vertical Rescue team conducted the rescue, scaling the Totem Pole in wet, windy conditions.

The rescue ending at dawn today, where they made their final move to safety.

There were no injuries.
