GROW DAY at the Chigwell Community Garden
You may have heard of the concept of speed dating where singles chat one-to-one, then, when a bell is rung, they to move onto the next person to talk to.
At the Chigwell Community Garden, on Saturday the 12th of April, Bucaan Community House is applying this concept to gardening, where every fifteen minutes visitors will have the chance to hear from a new gardening expert at GROW DAY 2025.
This is the first GROW DAY to be held at the Chigwell Community Garden.
BCH delivers several popular programs in the Garden during the week; however, the Neighbourhood House team wanted to address feedback that locals are keen to visit the garden on the weekends.
‘This is our way of inviting people in, to show them how great the space is, while sharing some gardening tips in a fun way,’ says Leah Brightman, Assistant Manager at Bucaan Community House.
Visitors to GROW DAY 2025 will have the chance to hear bite-sized information on eight gardening and sustainability topics.
- Composting with Katie Kristensen
- Growing from cuttings and seed raising with Linda Kemp
- Seed saving with Anna Kingstson
- Pruning with Peter Bobbi
- Biochar with Bill Harvey
- Bee keeping with Laura Rittenhouse and Frank Stoss
- Chook wrangling with Kendall Healy
…and there will be a bell to remind people to move onto the next topic! Towards the end of the two-hour event, presenters will be available to answer questions one-to-one.
GROW DAY 2025 will run from 10:30am – 12:30pm, is family friendly and includes sensory activities for kids, garden pot spray painting, a BBQ and even neck and shoulder massages for when you need a rest!
‘The event is 100% free and open to anyone interested in visiting this beautiful green space in the centre of Chigwell,’ says Leah.
GROW DAY 2025 is a Bucaan Community House event with the support of the Bupa Foundation and a wonderful group of volunteers, presenters and organisations who’ve given their time, on a Saturday, to run these great gardening and community activities.
