AFL Stadium Progresses to Planning Commission

The $715 million price for a new AFL stadium in Hobart’s been marked up.

The figure of $775 million is contained in an application to Tasmania’s Planning Commission.

But as CEO of Macquarie Point Development Corporation Anne Beach explains there will be avenues to trim the project back towards the lower amount.

“Yes, so there are a few strategies that we have, so it’s really normal with a project like this to work through value management, so some of that is working through the contractor and identifying areas where we want to see innovations from them in how they deliver the project and some areas in the design.”

She describes the submission as making a compelling case.

“We just stepped through what will not only make this a great stadium to play AFL, but what will make it a great stadium to play cricket and what’s really important to make sure we’re offering those broader elements, so as what we’ve set out in our application it’ll be a 1500 person function room, that’s really important to make sure we’re adding to the offerings that are in this state.”
