The first of two replacement ships for the Spirits of Tasmania has been officially named and launched at a ceremony.
Spirit of Tasmania 4 is being built at the Rauma Marine Constructions shipyard in Finland and is due to arrive in Devonport in the first quarter of next year, with Spirit 5, also currently under construction in Finland, due for delivery in the last quarter of the year.
The ship was launched by Deborah Grainger, the wife of TT-Line chairman Michael Grainger, with the traditional breaking of a bottle of Tasmanian sparkling wine on the bow of the ship.
After the naming, officials from Rauma and TT-Line opened large valves to allow water to flow into the dry dock, where work will continue on the now floating and officially named Spirit of Tasmania 4.
