Brutal weather threatening power supplies across Tasmania has led to a temporary break in industrial action by union members at TasNetworks seeking pay parity with mainland counterparts.
More than 550 residences and businesses across the state are still without power following weekend outages, with 330 in the South, 214 in the North-West, and 14 in the North, mostly due to trees falling on lines and other damage.
With savage weather with very high wind speeds expected on Tuesday and into the middle of the week, TasNetworks is predicting more outages are on the cards in the next few days.
TasNetwork CEO Sean McGoldrick has acknowledged the union temporarily halting industrial action to limit delays to power restoration, saying it’s times like this that Tasmanians need to unite.
